Many air conditions now have a memory for power failure that remembers the last setting an restarts on the same. So it does work
this just isnt true. you can buy very reasonably priced wifi thermometers that will let you control the mechanical air conditioner to turn on and off. you can also set schedules of when that will happen and also smart plugs do have geofencing. android assistant will also do this. oh and they also make smart ir blasters with hydrometers and thermometers. 12 bucks on amazon and then a 10 dollar smart plug if you have an electronic air conditioner.
for my room where i have a window unit i use a smart thermometer to turn the air conditioner on when the room temp reaches 75* and turn off when it reaches 72 degrees. this gives time to not cause a cycling issue. i set the air conditioner to max cold and medium fan speed. as i work nights and sleep days this allows me to raise the temperature of my central unit to 78 and i sleep comfortable as my room is uninsulated(house was built in 1956)
Hi Philip, coupling an IR blaster with a smart plug can perform the job desired, but it would result in the user needing two separate devices, with two different interfaces. This can be cumbersome and inefficient. Furthermore, there are a lot of nuances involved when controlling an air conditioner. Apart from the traditional on/off controls, there are vastly different control logics for the AC modes, fan positions. In addition to this, some AC manufacturers have proprietary niche modes such as Freeze Protection or Turbo or Self Clean, which can not always be found in regular multi-purpose IR blasters.
